Chapter 797: The Little Ainu Museum at the Hokkaido University Botanical Gardens

I decided to go for a short visit to the little Ainu Museum inside the Hokkaido University Botanical Gardens mainly to kill time before I catch the next train to Otaru. This was last year late April so there wasn’t a lot blooming at the time. However, the museum was quite an interesting one, since my first trip to Hokkaido 2 years ago, I’ve been fascinated with Ainu history. Here you will get a feel of the culture, and see very cool artefacts like, traditional clothing, pottery and huts and tools.

  1. Thank you for that! The Ainu have been so victimised and discriminated against. And they had cut the Ainu cultural part of the Olympics opening ceremony (hopefully with a year to think about it now they’ll bring it back). I always try to support Ainu businesses, esp in Tokyo (izakaya, small restaurants).

  2. Mel that is absolutely terrible they would cut the Ainu part out of the ceremony. Why would they do this. As an indigenous person myself I am always interested in other indigenous cultures, I am very interested to learn more about the Ainu people. Any more posts you have about the Ainu would be very welcome Tofu
