Hakone Yuryo Onsen.

To be honest I’m not entirely comfortable bathing with other people. All females or not, personally I just feel very body conscious. Especially with my surgical scars, it’s not something I like to place into the public eye. But I really wanted to visit an Onsen that provided a more private environment. For this, I visited Hakone Yuryo. They have 4 types of hot springs to choose from, one being the cheapest option the ‘Large Communal Baths’ for 1400 Yen/Adult and 700 Yen/Child. Next are the private options, Sumire for 4000 Yen/Hour, Kasumisou 5000 Yen/Hour, and finally Ajisai for 6000 Yen/Hour.

The good thing about this Onsen is the fact they offer a free shuttle bus service from Hakone Yumoto Station. The journey is only about 3 minutes up the steep hill. So all is good! They also have very pretty gardens, full of greens and tall bamboos. I actually arrived a bit early than expected but they let me in anyway and gave me my key. I was in room Hanamizuki (花水木) they don’t have numbers but names for rooms. But all is easy access with a map. I had the Ajisai option with the rocks. I actually thought the Onsen would be much bigger like the photos on the website, but it’s still big enough for little old me. Could fit 4-6 people. I was provided with all amenities, from hair dryer, shampoo, towels, warm coats, slippers, yukata etc. Complimentary crackers, also toilets are located outside the room.

An hour went by so quickly, and it was so lovely kicking back and relaxing. The view of nature and peacefulness was brilliant. The waters were not too hot but then again I’ve always been told that I run my baths quite hot compared to others. They also have a on-site restaurant, and mini shop if you want to purchase some souvenirs. My overall experience 5/5.
