I wanted to visit Kinkaku-ji 2 years ago but I missed the cut-off time for last entry. I made it a priority to get there early this time! The day started out well, as I arrived in the morning it wasn’t as crowded as it would be in the afternoon which gave me the opportunity to absorb the beauty and let it sink in.
The gardens were spectacular and ever so enchanting giving a sense of happiness and freedom. The gold reflecting upon the silent koi fish filled waters appeared almost unreal. During the route, you will pass by Anmintaku Pond which is said to never dry up, it is used as a place for prayer in hopes for rain. I thoroughly enjoyed my visit and would definitely recommend everyone to visit this unique zen temple at least once!!
It’s easy to reach via bus number 101 or 204 from Kyoto Station. It takes about 40-45 minutes and costs 230 Yen one way. There is unfortunately no station nearby the temple, so it’s the cheapest and best route to take! Entrance fee for 1 adult is only 400 Yen.
The question is: Is it real gold?
Answer: Yes, apparantly it’s real gold! In fact, it’s covered in Gold Leaf Gliding.

I’ve seen it twice. The last time was in pouring rain, and still worth it! Looks like you had lovely weather — good for you! Thank you for sharing your beautiful pictures.

Beautiful pictures! I went there during the afternoon so I missed all the zen and only saw crowd everywhere haha. I will make mental note to visit in the morning. 😉 The iris in the pond looks very pretty! Thank you for sharing with us! 🙂
